flashback friday.

thought i'd do my own version and look back at my old xanga to see what i was doing in years past on this date. sure i could go back to '95 and look through my old journals, but so not to bore you...we'll stick with what i've already posted online.

2005 - an interview with buck at 1:30am...as follows...
"so you want a job this summer?" buck
"yea!" me
"any questions?" buck
"can i still be in kickapoo?!" me
"sure." buck
"alright!" me

2006 -

feeling happy i thought maybe i would give a little background on why i always end with happy day...

my grandpa vandercar served in ww2. he was a prisoner of war for 4ish months.

well when the war ended and he came home, one of the first pictures of him back in the states was in front of the station. underneath it he wrote...

happy day.

i love him.

2007 - this is in response to pete for his bear bashing e-mail yesterday.
aunt steph sent this one...

This morning a Gary, Indiana kindergarten teacher explains to her class that she is an Indianapolis Colts fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they are Colts fans, too. Not really knowing what a Colts fan was, but wanting to be liked by their teacher, their hands flew into the air.

There is, however, one exception. Susie has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different. "Because I'm not a Colts fan" she reports.

"Then," asks the teacher, "what are you?"

"I'm a Chicago Bears fan," boasts the little girl.

The teacher asks Susie why she is a Bears fan. "Well, my Dad and Mom are Bears fans, so I'm a Bears fan, too" she responds.

"That's no reason," the teacher says. "What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was an idiot. What would you be then?"

Susie smiles and says, "Then I'd be a Colts fan."

i have had a few people here ask and no, just cause i am from indiana does not mean i will or should cheer on the colts. i have been a bears fan since before the colts were even in indy!

go bears!

2008 -

my toofers.

my teeth have been through so much in the last few months. quite a few fillings (6 teeth so far, some with multiple cavities) a facial on a chipped tooth, all four wisdom teeth pulled, two really good cleanings (scraping a lot of calcium from behind my permanent retainer, and i still have 4 teeth that need work. ugh.

the best thing though. after 9 years i was finally able to get my bottom retainer removed. if you ever saw me smile real big you probably noticed two silver things around two of my teeth. anyways...that is finally gone! it feels so nice!

check it out...

emma and evia.

mom was watching the kids today and i got the chance to talk to both emma and evia on the phone. it was quite funny. tammy sure has her hands full!

if you don't know, they are my nieces. older sisters to levi. emma is 5 and evia is 3. (evia was our flower girl and she's my God daughter)

1. emma was sad because georgia ate her puzzle pieces. she told me all about it and how copper never did that. he was a good dog and she liked him better, but she still likes georgia. she's just sad. we talked about it for awhile and then she let me go. evia got on a few seconds later and proudly said "i take care of my puzzles!" in her tiny 3 year old voice. "i ALWAYS take care of my puzzles."

2. it broke my heart, but i still had to laugh at how big of a stinker evia is when mom told me that she doesn't draw emma in pictures of their family. that's cold! poor em.

3. mom was talking to them and emma said "i'm never getting married. i'm not going to leave my mom and dad." evia said "well i am going to get married and have 5 babies!" emma replied "you do know babies come from your belly?" and evia said "no, they come from your privates!"

ahaha! i love those girls!

poladroid.

another friend jessica introduced me to poladroid. for all the polaroid lovers out there that were bummed by the recent happenings. it's real easy to use. it even makes the sound and the picture slowly develops.

i played with it a bit last night. here are two of my favorites.

tammy and whitney at the reception.

james and i the night before the wedding. our last not married kiss. i think this was at the knickerbocker. it's all a blur.

love.

my dear friend catie posted a few pictures on her blog of james and i. well actually it's just one picture so far, but she played around on photoshop and did some fun things.

this one is my favorite.

i love the wash on it.. it reminds me of some of my parents wedding pictures.

thanks aunt nancy for the pictures!

want to see a picture of our kid?!

i won't bore you. it's just one!

james has been working from 6am yesterday to 6am today. so i scheduled it real early this morning so we could go and he can sleep all afternoon. i was too impatient to schedule later in the day! so we headed out at 7:30.

i was so nervous. especially when they took me back to the same room i had the last one in. the one where i knew something bad was happening. i laid there staring at the same darn flower paintings on the wall hoping this one would have better news.

and it went well!

they said i am earlier than i thought. she had my due date as 22sep. almost a week after what we thought. i am 100% certain on the start of my last period. our doctor will let us know on thursday more details and stuff.

right now the baby is the size of a piece of rice, but we got to see it's heartbeat and the little arm and leg buds. it even flapped an arm bud for us! :)

they said everything looked good. the heartbeat was 125. anything over 100 is good!

they checked every little part of me out and measured it all. it was crazy. i never knew you are supposed to develop a cyst on one of your ovaries. it supports baby until the placenta can. interesting.

she also said since james is tall i'll likely go early. i never heard that before either!

anyways, here's bean's first picture...

(the arrow is pointing to it...the circle is the yolk sac.)
click on it for a huge version and you can see better.

food junkie.

since i just got done dropping off lunch to james and another guy on staff duty. i figured i would share some of my favorite recipes.

i made these to bring over to them. i wanted to keep them all to myself because they are the best mashed potatoes i've had. i vary the recipe a little bit. no half and half. warm milk with butter melted in it instead. they are so good!

i also went on a search for a good flour tortilla. besides the people it was one of my favorite parts of texas. thankfully i came across someone else in my position, and i found this recipe. it takes me back!

last night james grilled up some steaks, and i was on the hunt for a good salad. i had a bunch of lettuce i needed to use up, along with a roma tomato. we don't have an olive garden around, and i love their salad, so i looked online for their recipe. i found this and it was very close! i just needed a few more vegetables to add next time. i also got to use my blender for the first time! it was exciting.

many of my favorite recipes are in the better homes cookbook. the chili, guacamole, and sloppy joes are some of the best.

i also have a very good recipe for salisbury steak from a comfort foods cookbook. (thanks noles!) i have wanted homemade salisbury steak since high school when i had it at my friend's house. james wasn't a big fan. he said it was suspiciously like meatloaf.

finally, on saturday i wanted pizza. we didn't have any sauce, so i decided to make a white pizza. olive oil and a few spices mixed in. mozzarella and parmasan cheese, plus a few roma tomatoes. i did a homemade crust. it turned out well. good thing because james was slightly concerned when i told him what i was making knowing we had no sauce!

the tortillas and pizza crust are just so much better when you make them yourself! plus it's super cheap!

can you tell i've really gotten in to cooking? it's about time!

update.

sorry i haven't been inspired to write. i'll give a little update on life so far this year.

we've hung out with brayden, and adam and erica, a couple times. these pictures were from the hospital the day after he was born. he's tiny, and perfect.

i know i recently posted about how i am afraid of birds. so why would james get me one? well i fell in love with one when we were home at Christmas. i have wanted to get over my fear for some time now. they are just so darn cute, and i am seriously crazy about anything with birds on it. he's very friendly, and i'm not afraid to hang out with him. although this morning, i was home by myself. i hesitated slightly when pulling the blanket off his cage, just fearing he had a change of heart about me and he was going to be mean...he wasn't.

they say males will repeat simple words. i would really love to get him to say "hey jude." or maybe even sing the "na na na" part. that's simple enough right? for now every time he whistles i whistle back. james said "you know he's supposed to repeat you right? you're not the bird!"

he also sneezes. which is pretty much the cutest thing, but hopefully it's not a sign of sickness. i read dry sneezes are okay, and i am keeping watch on his nose for discharge. hoping it's just him getting adjusted to a new environment.

maggs is very curious, and looks confused everytime jude whistles.

that picture of james, as i took it i said..."do you always look that dumb while drinking?"

tuesday night we met ben, celina and aidan (ben is our old friend/current pastor) at chestatee high school for two of our youth's basketball games. we got to hang out with brad and pam jovaag. (brandon and john aaron's parents, they are the youth i was talking about) that family is so sweet, and very welcoming. we enjoy seeing them every sunday.

aidan got to try and make a basket during halftime, with help from brad. couldn't quite make it, but he looked like he had fun!

i have been to the doctor quite a few times so far this pregnancy. everything looks good. they recently upped my dosage of thyroid medicine. my tsh level was a little too high. we go in on tuesday for our first ultrasound. i'll be just shy of 7 weeks.

james is gone for the night. it's been awhile since he has been gone overnight. thankfully i have maggs, jude, and mama mia (no way james wanted to see that!) to keep me company.

lunch tomorrow with some ladies from church. i'm really looking forward to that!

hope you all are doing well!

happy day!

happy birthday adrienne!

for the first time in a long time (ever since we've known each other?) i haven't been with her on or around her birthday.

hoping she has a great one...wherever she may be!

for those who don't know my dear friend adrienne, and another friend luke are traveling west africa on a youth encounter team. spreading God's love and message through music. pray for them, and also spurt and gilligan (sarah and jon) who are currently in hong kong (thanks ua!) doing the same thing.

we miss you guys!

james and i celebrated by going to church, lunch, bowling and a movie. a very happy day!

baby blog.

i enjoyed having a page for the baby last time. keep it updated for those who want to know, so i made another.

the link is on the right side.

we had the pregnancy confirmed yet again. all the info is in the doctor updates section.

oh, and a weird thing i realized. remember i am a dork about numbers.

we found out we were pregnant the first time on 16 sep. found out we lost the baby on 7 nov.
this time we found out on 7 jan. and we are due 16 sep. pretty neat!

another weird number thing i realized awhile ago is if you and cori and edo's birthdays together, you get their wedding anniversary. (2.3 + 9.7 = 11.10)

yes. i'm strange.

and today...

adam and erica welcomed brayden!

God's blessings to all of you on your families of 3.

against doctor's orders.

yep. after 5 tests at home, and 2 at the doctor it's confirmed. i got a "barely positive" so the nurse said "you really are just a little pregnant!"

4 weeks.

nervous about seeing our obgyn since she didn't want us to try for 3 months. she did not approve of my "let's just leave it up to God" answer.

also nervous to share the news, but after thinking and talking about it, we know it's okay. there is no way we could have gotten through the miscarriage without the support of friends and family.

just that many more prayers this time around.

plus we have an extra angel up there now!

excited to share this wonderful time with my sister-in-law whitney. we always joked about it! wish we were closer, distance wise.

congrats to our friends bryan and krystal who told us their news the same day dave and whit did. lots and lots of babies!

happy day!

michigan and new years.

we went up to michigan to visit james' best friend dave. their friend josh rode with us. it's a tradition for the guys to get together after Christmas. been doing it every year but the two james was deployed. they usually drive up to stay with dave's family. dave used to live in lafayette, grew up right next door to james, and lived with them his senior year when his family moved to michigan. he joined them not long after graduating. i cannot say enough good things about dave. he is the greatest friend to have!

so i got to go along for the ride this year. and it was fun. they even let me go visit bronner's and some shops in frankenmuth. granted i had to go with to the brewery and deal with many late nights of them drinking and playing cards or dice.

we rung in the new year at a casino with dave's mom. she knew some people who were playing in a band there. we were all very excited, until we walked in the door and realized it was a room filled with slots. i had fun, but the boys were less than thrilled. they spent the evening at the bar, drinking and playing video poker.

i was in heaven and even found the same slot that i played forever in vegas. the boys kept giving me dollars to go and spend. probably just to keep me away, but i was happy!

it was so nice to be together for new years, and not spend it over the phone like the last two. here are some of the pictures from the trip.
